Part A: Examination and Medical Management in Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain

Course Overview:

• Etiology and classification of TMD (Dr. Nader Maroufi)
• Clinical biomechanics and movement impairment in masticatory system (Dr. Nader Maroufi)
• Medical Management of TMD and Orofacial pain (Dr. Samson Ng)
• Trigger point injection in TMD (Dr. Samson Ng)
• Diagnostic Imaging (CBCT and MRI) for TMD (Dr. Eli Jalali)
• A glance at surgical intervention for TMD: arthrocentesis, surgical disc repositioning, total joint replacement (Dr. Mozhgan Kazemian)
• Occlusal Examination and Relation to TMD (Dr. Saeed Refaei)
• The role of oral appliance and Botox for TMD management (Dr. Saeed Refaei)
• Hands-on examination of the masticatory system (Dr. Saeed Refaei, Dr. Nader Maroufi)
  
  
• Hands-on Examinations:
  • Rehabilitation strategies for Management of TMD (Dr. Nader Maroufi)
    

    Conduct hands-on examinations focusing on postural assessment of mandible and craniocervical region, breathing pattern and tongue posture in association with snoring habits, malocclusion, signs of tooth clenching and grinding, soft tissue and bony tender spots, trigger point pain, jaw mobility, stability, irritability, TMJ noises (click, pop, grinding), and the contribution of neck-shoulder to TMD symptoms.

Part B: Hands-on Rehabilitation Management of Temporomandibular Disorders and MSK-associated Orofacial Pain

Instructor: Dr. Nader Maroufi

• Soft tissue techniques: managing pain (symptoms) and removing soft tissue barriers
• Articular techniques; restoring mobility to TMJs and C-spine
• Breathing repatterning/ reprogramming
• Sensorimotor training in TMD sufferers; rebalancing posture and movement and controlling loading in the masticatory system
• Patient Education: self-management of pain, muscle tension, posture, breathing, and soft food diet
